REFORM FEDERAL MILK ORDERS

Family Dairies USA has led the fight to reform federal orders to provide the needed equity and simplicity for our dairy farm families.  We are working very closely with other dairy groups to assure that producers of all classes of milk receive an adequate return from market.

PRESERVE U.S. NATURAL CHEESE STANDARDS

Family Dairies USA is leading efforts to stop harmful proposals to legalize the use of imported casein and nondairy ingredients in natural cheese.   Since there are no limits or tariffs on casein imports, this proposal could hit hard by displacing large amounts of your farm milk in domestic cheese vats.

DISASTER BENEFITS IN CASE OF MISFORTUNE

No one wants to think they may be hit by a disaster.  But it does happen.  And even if your farm is well-insured, how will you recover the income you lose while rebuilding?  If you're a member of Family Dairies USA, your lost milk income may be covered for up to 30 days on qualified disasters under provisions of our by-laws.  The plan highlights disasters such as:

        Fire or Windstorm:

        If your barn, milkhouse or milking parlor is destroyed, you may be eligible to receive a benefits check up to 100% of your actual lost milk income for up to 30 days.

        Lightning:

        If some of your producing cows are killed by lightning, you may be eligible for payments of up to $200 per cow to cover your milk income lost while replacing the cow.

       Non Delivery Of Electric Power Due To Natural Causes:

       If the electric utility fails to deliver power to your farm meter, you may be eligible to receive a check for up to 75% of the normal market value of milk discarded for a period not to exceed 5 days.   

        Compressor Failure:

        If lightning disables your cooler compressor, you may be eligible for 75% of the normal market value of the milk in the tank or for one milking, whichever is greater.  Damage must be verified by a licensed electrician.

        Snow or Flood Loss:

        If snow-clogged roads or impassable flooded public highways prevent scheduled pick-up of your milk, you may be eligible to receive a benefit check for up to 75% of the milk's normal market value.

Producers shall take reasonable measures to minimize loss.  Benefits hereunder may be limited or denied where such measures have not been taken.
